Joel
has been waiting three years for his grandfather, who lives in New York
State, to visit Wyoming; but, Grandpa Benaducci doesn't act like the
grandpa Joel
remembers. Grandpa seems lost without Grandma. Joel and Grandpa used to
have lots of fun together - walking, fishing and playing with Joel's
Black
Lab, Banner. Now Grandpa is short-tempered, forgetful and inconsiderate,
forever checking his watch. Joel is embarrassed by Grandpa's bad manners,
and he always gets in Joel's way. Does Joel just see him differently
now that he's almost eleven?
Even Banner acts strangely this hot summer. Banner seems to have less
energy and isn't eating well. Is the heat affecting them all?
Joel is torn between love and hate and must learn to deal with his
anger during a summer that will change his life.
