School Visits

Dressed in a western 1890's shirt, vest and derby hat, Gene presents an entertaining, informative program for students in grades 1-6 that gives them a concrete way to construct stories. Using many hats and props to help children understand character development, audience involvement for character and story creation, the program concludes with a song written, composed and sung by him. Gene will amuse and inspire students.

Gene's interactive program for students in grades 7-12 emphasizes showing, not telling in creative writing and how using the five senses can spark story ideas, and then be used to enrich the writing. He shares real examples from his own books.

Since 2003 Gene has presented to over 50 schools in Wyoming, Missouri, South Dakota, and Minnesota. K2 News of Casper, WY visited Verda James Elementary while Gene was presenting. To see the news clip, click the appropriate link.
